Visitor Information

We hope this information will give you a better insight into who we are and what we are about. If you have a question that is not addressed here, please contact us.

1. How do we find First Presbyterian?

A: We are located at 1002 Fox Avenue in Lewisville, TX at the corner of Fox Avenue and Edmonds Lane. Click here for a map.

2. What "kind" of a Presbyterian Church is First Presbyterian?

A: First Presbyterian is a church of the Presbyterian Church (USA). We are the largest and oldest Presbyterian denomination in North America.

3. What can I expect to happen in a worship service?

A: We have a blended style of worship that includes elements of a traditional order of worship such as s hymns, responsive readings, Scripture readings, prayers, sharing joys and concerns, and a sermon. We sing some hymns from a 1986 hymnal published by WORD Music entitled ?The Hymnal for Worship & Celebration which includes some old favorites as well as hymns for praise and worship accompanied by the organ and other instruments. We also sing some more contemporary songs accompanied by a band including drums, guitars, and keyboard. Songs include both popular Christian hits and congregational favorites. We now worship together at 10am. Worship Alive! is an exciting format that combines many worship styles.

4. When is the worship service and how long does it last?

A: Worship begins at 10:00am and lasts about an hour.

5. What do you have for children and youth?

A: First Presbyterian offers a Sunday School for children of all ages. For kids preschool through 5th grade, we use a curriculum called Bible Quest, an ecumenical curriculum designed to help kids connect with the Bible in such a way that it relates to their lives and life experiences. It illustrates to participants how to live in the world as disciples of Jesus Christ. Our students experience the Bible story through storytelling, drama, music and art. They share their understanding of the story with others and hear how others interpret the story. Then they affirm together their new understandings of the story and celebrate God's presence. This curriculum is designed to give our students a solid biblical foundation. Our children also enjoy Vacation Bible School each summer.

Our youth in grades 6-12 meet on Sunday mornings for topical and current events-based Bible Study. The youth meet for "Fusion" at 3-5 each Sunday night. They have games and recreation, times of fellowship and support, Bible study, discussion on current topics, and mission activities.

We also provide a nursery for all church events, including worship. Our workers undergo background checks, having training in first aid and CPR, and love children.

6. What do people wear to worship?

A: People come to worship wearing whatever feels most comfortable to them. On any given Sunday, you will see men wearing anywhere from coats and ties to jeans and t-shirts. Women wear dresses, pants, or jeans. In the summer, some people even wear shorts.

7. Describe the ministry at your church.

At First Presbyterian Church, all members are encouraged to find a place of ministry using their God-given spiritual gifts. The ministry of First Presbyterian Church is carried out in a team-based format with six teams addressing the needs of the church and the community. Each team is led by Elders and reports their activities to the Session on a monthly basis.
Our teams include Worship, Christian Education, Buildings and Grounds, Mission & Planning, Administration, and Evangelism & Fellowship.

8. How do I become a member?

A: Members are received after meeting with the pastor and session (our local governing body). Members can be received upon profession of faith, reaffirmation of faith or transfer of church letter.

9. How can I find out more about First Presbyterian Church?

A: Email our office and we will be back in contact with you.
