Mission
At First Presbyterian Church, we seek to draw people to the love of God and proclaim the Good News of the Gospel. Our missions echo the theme of the "Starfish Story".
Once a man and his son were walking along the beach. As they walked, they noticed the many starfish that the incoming tide had left stranded on the shore. The child repeatedly knelt, picked up a starfish, and tossed it back into the sea. Finally, the father said to the boy, "Son, don't bother throwing each starfish back. There are so many, and you can't save them all. You're just wasting your time. What you're doing doesn't really matter." The boy knelt, selected another starfish and replied, "But it matters to this one."
This summer, our church joined several other churches to serve in the Albuquerque, NM area. In summers past,
FPC traveled across the border to the Juarez, Mexico area, teaming up
with local pastors for construction and relationship building. Check out the videos. We team up with
Christian Community Action to help with services such as Food Pantry,
Housing, Heathcare, and Vocational Training to the people of our
community. Each
Summer, FPC participates in Kids Eat Free, an incredible
community-based Mission program established to provide lunches in the
summer for children who participate in subsidized school lunch programs
during the calendar school year.
Annually, we
host a blood drive with Carter Blood Care, a community blood center
serving more than 31 counties in North Central Texas. We join with
millions of other Christians through One Great Hour of Sharing to share
God?s love with people experiencing need. Our gifts support ministries
of disaster response, refugee assistance and resettlement, and
community development that help people find safe refuge, start new
lives, and work together to strengthen their families and
communities. Presbyterian
Children's Homes and Services provides residential care to children and
youth ages birth through 18 (or graduation from high school). Each
Christmas, we donate stockings filled with gifts for the PCH
resisdents. Operation
Kid-to-Kid? is a partnership of Group Publishing, Inc., and
nondenominational Christian organizations dedicated to creating
hands-on service projects for children in North America. Operation
Kid-to-Kid? projects have impacted hundreds of thousands of kids all
over the world. This year, our kids will learn what it means to help
others as they create a Prayer Bear that says ?Jesus? in English,
Spanish, and French. Plus, everyone can personalize a Survivor's Bible
to send along with the Prayer Bear to an orphan in Africa. 30 Hour
Famine is an international youth movement to fight hunger. Youth in
junior and senior high school from around the world join together in
the event where students don't eat for 30 hours in order to better
associate with hunger and to raise money for World Vision's fight
against hunger.
The
Souper Bowl of Caring is a youth-led, grassroots movement of caring,
the result of thousands of young people joining together to fight
hunger and poverty in their communities. Our Youth collect donations on
SuperBowl Sunday to support the Stewpot in Dallas, TX.
